Restore Your Smile with Immediate Dental Implants

With traditional dental implants, you have to wait several months after your implant placement procedure to receive your restoration. At Hopkin Oral Surgery in Salt Lake City, UT, we offer immediate dental implants, allowing you to receive a restoration within a day or two of surgery. Dr. Dustin Hopkin will work closely with your general dentist to quickly and efficiently restore your smile.

Immediate implants allow you to wear temporary restorations while you heal following placement surgery.

Do I Qualify for Immediate Implants?

In general, immediate-loading implants work better in the front of your bite because the molars must withstand a greater amount of force. However, Dr. Hopkin can use the All-on-4® treatment method to replace a full arch of teeth. A range of factors can affect your candidacy for immediate-loading implants, including the density of the bone tissue in the treatment area and the health of your gums. Bone grafting or periodontal care may be required before implant surgery to ensure the long-term success of your treatment.

The best way to find out if you can receive an immediate-load dental implant is to schedule an appointment with Dr. Hopkin. He can assess your oral health to determine whether this treatment is right for you. Even if you cannot receive an immediate temporary, you may still qualify for traditional dental implants.

Within 24 to 48 hours of your implant surgery, you will return to your general dentist’s office so they can attach your temporary restoration to your implants.

How Immediate Dental Implants Work

Receiving an immediate-load implant is similar to the traditional implant process. You will receive local anesthesia or sedation so you can remain comfortable during the procedure. Then, Dr. Hopkin will precisely place one or more implants into your jaw bone.

Within 24 to 48 hours of your implant surgery, you will return to your general dentist’s office so they can attach your temporary restoration to your implants. You will wear your temporary for the next three to six months as your implants fuse with the bone tissue surrounding them. Once this process, known as osseointegration, is complete, your dentist can attach your permanent restoration.

The Benefits of Using Immediate-Load Implants

For the right candidates, dental implants are the gold standard of tooth replacement options and can provide a wide range of benefits. Immediate implants have a few unique advantages:

  • You will only have to go without teeth for a very short time. Soon after your implants are in place, you can experience the benefits of a complete smile. With traditional implants, you may not be able to wear a restoration of any kind until healing is complete.
  • The results often look more natural. With a temporary restoration in place, the gum tissue often grows around it, making the final result look more natural.
  • Speak clearly and feel confident right away. If your missing teeth are compromising your ability to enunciate, an immediate-load implant can allow you to spend the healing period speaking clearly and feeling confident knowing your smile looks complete, healthy, and natural.
