Currently day 3 after getting my 2 wisdom teeth removed from here and I have not encountered any pain whatsoever. Dr. Hopkin will prescribe pain medication to help minimize any discomfort. Patients may also choose to take over-the-counter pain relievers such as ibuprofen.
Blood clots will form at the extraction sites after surgery. It is important not to drink out of a straw or make suction with your mouth, as this can dislodge the clots and cause dry socket.
It is normal to experience swelling for a few days after surgery. This decreases with time and can be alleviated by applying a cold compress to the jaw for the first 24 hours after surgery.
Patients must eat a soft food diet for the first few days following their procedure. Recommended foods include soup, applesauce, and yogurt. You will be able to add in more solid foods as healing progresses.
Patients must avoid exercise and other strenuous activities for the first few days after surgery. An increase in heart rate or blood pressure can cause more bleeding at the extraction site.
